An owner’s consent before a procedure is a document you rarely go back to, but when you do, it has to be found at once. In many clinics it still looks the same: a printout, a pen on a string and a signature on a knee in the waiting room. Printed sheets often go missing before they reach the binder, and a year later nobody can find the scan.
In VetiCloud a veterinary consent form on a tablet is created from the visit. The patient and owner details and the diagnosis go into the document by themselves, and the vet adds the ASA grade and the estimated cost before sending. Reception sends the consent to the tablet, the owner reads it and signs with a finger or stylus, and the signed PDF is saved in the records.

A document straight from the visit
In the Documents tab every template has a “Send to tablet for signature” button. Consents for surgery, anaesthesia or euthanasia go from the visit context, and the data protection consent window opens by itself after a new patient is registered.

Signature only after reading
The owner can sign the consent only once they have read the whole text and confirmed the declaration. They can also decline to sign, and reception sees straight away that there is no consent.

PDF in the patient records
The signed document is saved with the date, time and workstation name in the visit attachments and on the owner’s record. If the owner has an email address on file, a copy goes to them automatically.

The tablet does not sit idle
When nothing is waiting to be signed, the tablet shows the clinic’s photos and videos on a loop. A signature request interrupts the slideshow, and an unsigned document expires after 15 minutes, so nobody else’s consent stays on the screen.

Is a veterinary consent form signed on a tablet saved as a PDF?
Yes. The document is saved as a PDF with the owner’s signature and the date and time of signing, ready to print and archive.
Which documents can be signed on the tablet?
The ready-made templates cover consent to surgery, anaesthesia and euthanasia. On top of that there is the data protection consent and any template of the clinic’s own.
Can the consent be signed with a stylus?
Yes. The signature box accepts a finger and a stylus, and when signing with a stylus, a hand resting on the screen does not leave stray marks.
What kind of tablet do I need?
An ordinary tablet with a web browser is enough, with no extra hardware and no programs to install. Once set up, it is ready as soon as someone on the team sends a document for signature.
What if the owner does not want to sign the consent?
The tablet has an “I decline to sign” button. In the sending window reception sees that the owner has declined to sign, and can send a different document or refer the owner to a talk with the vet or the person responsible for the procedure.
Can consents still be signed on paper?
Yes. The same window has a button to print for signing with a pen, and the scan is then added to the records as an attachment.
